It’s that time of year again! The new Concordia Publishing House Interns have arrived and are looking forward to joining the CPH family. This summer, Concordia Publishing House has invited seven talented students from across the country to be a part of our Internship Program. Each intern has the opportunity to work and learn alongside the remarkable staff here at CPH and soak it all in before the summer is over. Learn more about this great group of students below.

Name: Emily Breytung

What made you want to apply at Concordia Publishing House?

As a sophomore, my academic adviser sent out the CPH internship information in an email, and even though it said you had to be a junior to apply, I read the information anyway and fell in love. I love literature and I love Jesus, so the combination really works for me!

What is your favorite Bible Verse?

Isaiah 54:10. "For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you."

What is one fun fact about yourself?

This fact always gets me laughed at, but I am actually deathly afraid of butterflies! I have always hated them since I was a little kid, and even to this day I still can’t stand being anywhere near them. I do think they are beautiful, just far away from me!

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

If I could go anywhere in the world it would be to Iceland. I don’t know anyone who has ever been there before, but everything about the country intrigues me. I love the glaciers, hot springs, unique architecture, and culture of the people there.

What made you want to apply at Concordia Publishing House?

CPH has been a part of my life since I was little kid in the Lutheran school system. I knew they would be a great company to work for and gain real-world experience while helping the company reach others through Christ.

What is your favorite Bible Verse?

Isaiah 40:30–31. “Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

What is one fun fact about yourself?

I actually know how to make balloon animals!

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

I would love to visit somewhere in Asia. I would like to see the elephants and experience the wonderful food.

Major: Secondary and Middle Level Education with Language Arts, Lutheran Teacher Diploma

Hometown: West Point, Nebraska

Department at CPH: Curriculum Resources

What made you want to apply at Concordia Publishing House?

I’ve always had a passion for editing and literature, and after hearing about the positive experience other interns had, CPH definitely seemed like the type of Christ-centered work environment where I could both grow in my faith and build my knowledge of publishing and the editorial process.

What is your favorite Bible verse?

My confirmation verse, Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.”

What is one fun fact about yourself?

I can recite the alphabet forward and backward and all 66 books of the Bible in less than a minute.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

My dream travel destination has always been London, England, but I recently had the opportunity to go there. So now I would say either Germany or Ireland.

What made you apply at Concordia Publishing House?

I wanted to apply at CPH after I heard about a friend of mine interning here last summer. I was keeping my eyes open for internship opportunities, but once I found out that I could intern at CPH, I was sold! I knew it would have a great Lutheran atmosphere and a lot of opportunities.

What is your favorite Bible verse?

My favorite Bible verse is my confirmation verse, Isaiah 40:31. “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

What is one fun fact about yourself?

I have been to every national LWML convention since 2005! I have also been in over 20 theatrical productions!

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

I think I would go to Athens, Greece.

Name: Adele Gendron

School: University of Michigan

Year in School: Senior

Major: Communication Studies (Minor in Writing)

Hometown: Munising, Michigan

Department at CPH: Marketing

What made you want to apply at CPH?

I wanted to apply at CPH because the internship program and the mission of the company looked to fit my goals, my values, and what I could see myself doing in the future.

What is your favorite Bible verse?

My favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:37.  “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” In order to be more than a conqueror, one would have to intensely and fiercely gain victory over an opponent! It is saying that Jesus has more than defeated the enemy and now nothing can separate us. This verse reminds me that through Jesus’ work on the cross I am OVERWHELMINGLY victorious by the glory of our God!

What is one fun fact about you?

Fun fact about me! I’m a third-generation Yooper! This means that I was born (and reside) in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, as were both my parents and all of my grandparents! We are known for our flannel, saying “you betcha”, and our small communities!

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

Everywhere! It’s hard to choose! Top three are probably Peru, Europe, and Australia. I would love to go to Machu Picchu, see the White Cliffs of Dover, and tour the Sydney Opera House!

What is your favorite Bible verse?

Colossians 2:6–7. "Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”

What is one fun fact about yourself?

I play string bass in the orchestra at school.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

School: Concordia University Chicago

Year in School: Senior

Major: English

Hometown: Seymour, Indiana

Department at CPH: Book Production

What made you want to apply at CPH?

I applied to CPH because CPH is truly the premier publisher of the Synod for myself. Pursuing an English degree, I knew I would benefit from working at such a prestigious company for whatever God has planned for my future. I also thought it would be appropriate to put my own skills to work here at CPH.

What is your favorite Bible verse?

Hebrews 12: 1–2. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

What is one fun fact about you?

I have a pet chinchilla at home.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

I would travel to Rome. Rome and the surrounding region possesses historical sites of our Christian faith.
