Video Sessions

• Session 1: Draw Near; Song of Songs 1:1–7 (24:31) — Why don’t we open the Song of Songs more often? This video discusses factors that make the Song intimidating, but also inviting. We will review six different themes of interpretation for the Song and, most important, discover more about who this God is who invites us to draw near.
• Session 2: The Purpose of Pleasure; Song of Songs 1:12–14 (13:52) — We can’t ignore the spiciness factor in the Song of Songs. The word "pleasure" alongside the Bible may make us slightly uncomfortable, but God sees pleasure in many things. We can’t let the world steal the gifts of God and call them something dirty. In this video, we’ll discover how God sees pleasure as relational, sometimes spicy, sometimes not, and most likely sees it far differently than we would be taught by the world around us. (Note: This video is still rated PG.)
• Session 3: Desire, Desperation, and Salvation; Song of Songs 3:1–3 (15:01) — Our God seeks us, finds us, and puts a desire for Him deep inside of us. The fall into sin complicates everything in this life, including our desire—for Him, for men, and in all our relationships. Song of Songs 3 reveals the lovers’ own experiences with these complications and gives us a great place to contemplate this for our own lives.
• Session 4: Altogether Beautiful; Song of Songs 4:1–7 (14:24) — God is concerned with the concept of beauty. He gives us wisdom throughout Scripture to find healthy grounding of just how valuable we are to Him. In this video, we’ll redefine how we think about the word "beautiful" and find a new vantage point by which to understand body image, identity, weakness, and grace.
• Session 5: Folly and Forgiveness; Song of Songs 5:1–8 (12:55) — Please tell me I’m not the only one who has done something truly foolish! I know I’m not; I’m assured I’m not in the Word. We all are verifiably foolish, but what does God do with foolish? We’ll address that and find some peace in our foolishness as the Shulammite shares her own in Song of Songs 5.
• Session 6: That Which Is Truly Awesome; Song of Songs 6:4–10 (12:19) — God gives us all kinds of awesome gifts in this life, and Song of Songs highlights many of them. In this video, though, we take a step back to look at some Hebrew language and hone in on the things that are truly awesome in Christ Jesus.
• Session 7: A Love Stronger than Death; Song of Songs 8:6–7 (14:08) — Is jealousy ever okay? What is the difference between fierce love and jealousy? What do these look like in both our spiritual and our romantic lives? In this video, we’ll consider the elements of the seal and the flame in Song of Songs 8 for insight into true belonging as we walk through this life.
• Session 8: Make Haste; Song of Songs 8:13–14 (12:53) — The conclusion to the Song of Songs feels unfinished at best. However, the open nuances of the poetry lead us to consider the place and truth of eternity in our lives and why so much of life feels like we are left in the waiting, longing for more, for something deeper, for something more complete.
